South Pasadena Unified School District

South Pasadena's pride is it's five schools in the 3.4 square mile city of 25,000. From academics to athletics, the schools each have their own distinctions, and together are a great team.

The South Pasadena Unified School District includes Arroyo Vista, Marengo, and Monterey Hills Elementary Schools, South Pasadena Middle School and South Pasadena High School.

Each of the schools has its own proud accomplishments. Arroyo Vista school has been honored as a California Distinguished School and named a NCLB National Blue Ribbon School. Marengo and Arroyo Vista Elementary Schools have placed 1st and 2nd in the state, and in the top ten  nationally in the Knowledge Bowl math competition. Monterey Hills Elementary School is among the few public elementary schools in California to receive a distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 9 out of 10.

The Middle School currently has a population of about 1,000 students, many of whom have gone to school together since kindergarten. Community connections are many and varied as students learn to become good citizens. Students contribute through such organizations as ASB (student government), Students That Serve, Recognition Homeroom and the Environmental Club, to name a few. The school features a thirty-five station computer lab, a second thirty-station lab (in the library) and a Mac lab. The Middle School is currently undergoing a major facilities renovation, scheduled for completion in Fall of 2011.

Established in 1906, South Pasadena High School is the first and only high school in South Pasadena. The campus is situated in the heart of the city on Fremont Avenue. The school is comprised of several main academic buildings, a library, a performing arts auditorium, a swimming pool, three sets of tennis courts, two indoor gymnasiums, a state-of-the art 400-m outdoor track, and three athletic fields. The school's motto is "Scholarship, Leadership, Strength, and Fair Play." The school colors are orange and black, and the mascot is a tiger.

In 2008, the entire community celebrated when a completely renovated football/track stadium was unveiled, featuring FieldTurf and all-weather track. The field is the only one of its kind in all of California.

Some SouthPas grads go on to schools around the country, others stay close to home. South Pasadena is centrally located among a plethora of higher education opportunities—from football rivals USC and UCLA to private colleges, faith-based institutions, and trade schools.
